KPI: what it is and how to evaluate performance

KPI (Key Performance Indicators) are measurable indicators that reflect the effectiveness of employees, teams, or processes.

Main types of KPIs:

  • Result KPIs – show the total volume of completed tasks or actions. For example: number of cold calls or number of submitted candidates.

  • Productivity KPIs – evaluate the amount of work within a specific period, e.g.: how many tasks a developer completed during a sprint.

  • Resource KPIs – track how many resources (time, budget, staff) were used to complete a task.

Why KPIs are important:

  • to objectively evaluate employee and team performance;

  • to analyze results and adjust processes;

  • to plan future periods and forecast workload;

  • to ensure transparency of goals and fair self-assessment within the team.
