DOOH Advertising: What It Is and How Digital Outdoor Advertising Works

DOOH (Digital Out Of Home) refers to digital outdoor advertising displayed on electronic media such as screens, media facades, terminals, etc.
Like online advertising, it can be targeted by the geolocation of the displays, time of day, and audience characteristics.
Unlike traditional billboards, DOOH allows you to run internet retargeting for the audience that has seen the ad, and it cannot be "swiped" or turned off like a banner ad in an app.

Advantages of DOOH:

  • High reach and quick campaign launches.
  • Ability to change creatives in real-time.
  • Users cannot hide or block the advertisement.
  • Scalability: from one screen to a nationwide network.

Disadvantages of DOOH:

  • Mainly available in large cities.
  • The analytics system is less accurate than in digital.
  • Banner blindness: the audience becomes accustomed to and less notices the ads.
